Our Term 2, 2023 ‘MASK’ comp is now open…

We are super excited to announce our theme for our Term 2, 2023 competition *drumroll* and the theme is…MASK. So many great ways to interpret this theme so get cracking with your stories, we can’t wait to read them and celebrate your creativity. And for all our Frankston District and Mornington Peninsula Secondary Schools – Mornington Peninsula News Group has kindly offered to publish the best local writer’s entry for each term as part of the Little Stories Big Ideas comp. What a great opportunity to be a PUBLISHED writer! The winner will also appear in the Mornington Peninsula News along with their story. Be the pride of your school.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Welcome to 2023

A huge congratulations to our winners of Term 4 2022 ‘Fear’ comp. Well done to all of you!

We’d like to award every student that entered a prize but unfortunately we can’t (but we’d like to!) and so many of you were SOOOO close to being chosen as winners so don’t despair if your story wasn’t chosen as a winner this term because in our eyes you’re a WINNER for writing one in the first place. So keep entering, because we absolutely LOVE reading your stories.

We’d also like to say a BIG thank you to the school communities for supporting our competition and encouraging their students to enter, we’ve had multiple entries from loads of schools and we’re really grateful to teachers for encouraging your students to enter.

Term 4 2022 Closed

Our Term 4 ‘Fear’ Comp has closed for entries. We’d like to congratulate every single one of you that entered the comp on your creativity and courage to share your words with the world. We had a record 431 entries for the term which is a great way to finish off 2022. A big thanks to our sponsors Readings , Officeworks , Express Media , VentraIP Australia and StoryCraft Creative Writing Workshops.

Winners will be announced during the week of the 23rd of January, 2023, as always we expect that to be a difficult task given just how awesome you guys are as writers. Term 1 2023 will be open for entries early in Jan 2023, so stay tuned.

So, from us to you, a happy and safe holiday season, time for a well-earned break from the books. If you graduated this year, or you’re finishing your secondary studies, then we wish you all the best in your tertiary education, the workforce, travel adventures or whatever you decide to do in 2023. For all of you returning, we hope to see your entries once again next year in 2023, we have loved reading all of them this year and witnessing first hand what a talented bunch of writers our generation next are.

Term 3 2022 Winners Announced!

A huge congratulations to our winners of Term 3’s ‘Body’ comp. We’d like to extend our congratulations to every student who entered as that alone is an achievement worth celebrating, and a special mention to those students who entered multiple times.

We’d also like to say a BIG thank you to the school communities for supporting our competition and encouraging their students to enter.

We would love to give everyone who entered a prize but we can’t, choosing the winners is getting tougher and tougher due to the amazing young writers we have in Australia. If you didn’t win or receive an Honourable Mention, don’t despair, treat your entry as a stepping stone to becoming a writer, and keep writing. Just because your entry did not win does not mean it’s not worthy and rest assured we treasure every single entry.

Term 1 2022 Winners Announced!

It is with great pleasure that we announce our winners for our Term 1 2022 ‘Responsibility’ competition. Congratulations to everyone of our winners and Honourable Mentions and to their school communities and family units, and let us also extend our congratulations to every student that entered the competition for your bravery and creativity. If you were not a winner it does not mean you’re not worthy as the act of creating a story is a victory in itself. Keep writing and keep entering! Our Term 2 comp is already open with the haunting theme of ‘Ghost’.

As our chief Judge Rebecca Fraser commented: “You’d think now Little Stories, Big Ideas is firmly into its second year, we’d be accustomed to the imaginative and diverse scope of creativity and talent demonstrated by our nation’s young writers…but ‘Generation Next’ continues to impress and awe.”

It’s a great pleasure to be able to announce all our winners and honourable mentions for our Term 4 edition of Little Stories Big Ideas fiction competition for secondary school students. 171 entries were received from all over Australia and the quality of those entries was astounding which made judging very tough. To everyone that entered we thank you for your effort and encourage you to keep entering whether you win or not. We are super proud of you all and excited by the next generation of talented writers finding their voice through our comp. Congrats to all the winners, we’ll be in touch soon with a digital certificate and details of how to get your prize. We will be publishing the winning entries over the course of the next few weeks and as many of the rest of the entries as we can.
