Welcome to Little Stories Big Ideas
Australia's biggest creative writing competition for secondary students
About LSBI
Hi, Joe Novella here, Founder of Little Stories Big Ideas, the little creative writing competition that started in 2021 during COVID-19 (remember that, yikes) to inspire young people to use their imagination and be creative.
LSBI was not-for-profit and run by a dedicated band of volunteers (Yours truly, Rebecca Fraser and Sarah Halfpenny) and it grew to be the nation's biggest writing comp for secondary school students. Pretty cool, eh?
In early 2025 LSBI was gifted to the peak body for young writers Express Media, so that it could continue to grow and prosper with the extra resources Express Media have available.
Rebecca, Sarah and I are extremely proud of LSBI, growing and nurturing it to the point where we we regularly receiving around 400 entries per term, from secondary schools all around Australia. But there's only so much a few volunteers can do so we we're happy to pass the baton to Express Media and we look forward to LSBI continuing to provide a platform for our students to express themselves
